Banff National Park

June 26, 2016 – Banff National Park – Jasper National Park

Definitely not the most direct route to the Yukon and Alaska if that was your only destination, but this is just not a goal oriented / destination planned adventure. Where we may end up and the unknown of that is the best thing going on.   So we detoured from the direct route through the cities of Calgary and Edmonton and we went through Banff National Park and onto Jasper.

The rivers are glacier fed and the stunning colors are out of this world. The sights are, as you can imagine, incredible to say the least. The photos speak for themselves. It was an awesome cruise through the park and I continued into Jasper National Park in the early afternoon.   We stopped so Diezel could have a swim, but the water was huge with glacier runoff and the current was deadly. We drove around the campground and noticed it was fairly wide open with some great spots beneath the dense shade forest and so we backed into a good spot and busted out some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale leftover from the Casuelas Tour!

I edited some photos and texted the bosses and once I was relaxed I was reminded that it would be good if I made some delicious dinner for us tonight. So I took 4 fresh burger patties from the FridgeFreeze and got them on the stove.   Diezel likes his plain like a normal 3 year old, but the old guy likes them with grilled onions, some old sharp cheddar cheese and a bit of Dirty’s 7 Seasoning served on fresh Sourdough sliced thick. Oh how I get what I want as the older I become.

We ate side-by-side and each bite I had I served him a bite on a fork.

The mosquitos were THICK!

Prior to leaving for the trip many friends had warned the worst thing about the Yukon and Alaska were the mosquitos. I researched on the web forums and many Alaskan locals swear by a product called NATRAPEL. I ordered a case of 8 bottles of it and now was the time to test it out.

BINGO…sprayed my body down with the Natrapel and for the past few days not a single mosquito bite yet! Even Canadians were asking me what I was using. And yes of course I spray it on Diezel.
