XploreBaja (XB) II Camper Specs and Photos

Building your own custom camper can be a daunting challenge, however, both LJ and I have been designing and talking about this for several years and when I told him I was heading to Alaska in the summer of 2015 he said let’s do it.

We began actual fabrication in Jan 2015 and as of yesterday we were putting the final touches on the interior with flooring and everything to make it feel like home on the road.  Their are so many specs along with the trials and tribulations of what worked in the fabrication build and what didn’t work.  We only had to cut out a few square tubes in the end and reweld some tube but all in all the metal fabrication was amazing.  The XB II camper is constructed with 1″ inch square tubing with a few lengths of 2″x1″ rectangle tubing in order for the walls and ceiling to be able to be affixed to the the tube and jointed properly.

While we didn’t work on the project each and everyday, we tried to spend a few hours each weekend when available to discuss systems associated with the XB II including Solar, House Battery, Charge Controllers, Insulation, Interior Design, Siding, Weight of Project, Weight Distribution, Utilization of the Utility / Service Bed compartments, Camper Mounting to Utility / Service Bed, Interior / Exterior Lighting, Fans, Windows, Ventilation, Flooring, Bed Construction, Table Design, Durability along with so much more.  The project subjects are endless.

In the end we believe we have created what is best for our own personal use and while it not meet everyone’s standards it sure meets our standards in both simplicity and functionality.  We will have more info on the XB II in future posts but for the time being this is what you get.
